Chris bathgate

The darkness was vague

Chris bathgate
The darkness was vague and indecipherable
So I stared at my clock radio
And it whispered to me you’re responsible
So I stared at my bedroom door
And the dim outlines it made
On into the kitchen I’ll fade
Where all the bottles and cans are out of the cupboards
Little whores in a bed of stains and crumbs
Well they whispered and they called me sailor
In livid sticky little graveyards
And my eyes turn to the windows of the dawn
That divided my world into something manageable

So it’s over now
All your
Your friends
When you’re

They say this is it
Well you know it never ends

So my shoes hit the street and ice and snow
And my soles scuff the sleet and salt and stone
You know when all our leaves were weeping there
Like little fish gasping for air
They’re climbing into lonely little homes
Trying to reach the surface
Persistent but ignorant
And I realized we’re no different
All of us here on the ground
Ghosts of some are unaware we’ve drowned

So it’s starting now
All your
Your friends
When you’re

They say this is the one
Well you know it always was
