The greatest of these

Believest thou, though thou hast ne'er me seen
That i whom thou call'st god, and blessings pray
Should grant salvation - life eternally
To him who on his faith in me doth stay?

And hopest thou for that which may become
Though in this world though shalt so surely die
That i in mercy have prepared for some
A chamber in my mansions up on high?

O knowest thou that i in love have given
Mine only son, begotten lord to be
That by his life he showed men how to live
If through his sacrifice they would be free?

My child live then thy life in charity
And know thou wilt with me
Eternal be
