Edge of chinatown

Papermaps
Sleep had turned me upside down
So I walked to the edge of Chinatown
I went to my haunt of seven years
Nobody really knows me there

I saw a wicker man who lost his way
Went to the mountain for forty days
Spoke to the fire but lost his nerve
What did he learn?

I sat among the denim pushers
Writers, mothers, dealers, teachers
Healers, dreamers and wayward spouses
And pretty things from red light houses

He was a family man who lost his faith
Wrote to the girl for seven days
Caught a train downtown but lost his nerve
What did he learn?
And what did he deserve?

Sleep had turned me upside down
So I walked to the edge of Chinatown
I walked through the mall and past a mirror
I didn’t recognize who I saw there

A wicker man who lost his way
Went to the mountain for forty days
Spoke to the fire but lost his nerve
What did he learn?
